Adjunct Professor, University of Texas School of Public Health
Jim Painter earned a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health and a consultant for National Dairy Council. A distinguished author, longtime educator and nutrition expert, Jim’s current areas of research include reducing risk of heart disease through phytonutrient and dietary intervention; managing weight through mindful eating and caloric intake; and developing low-sugar, nutrient-dense dishes made with whole foods. He has been a registered dietitian since 1980 and has served as a nutrition consultant for businesses and organizations including Dole Packaged Foods, California Raisin Marketing Board, Sun-Maid Growers of California and Wonderful Pistachios. He has also served on the American Heart Association’s Healthier Diet Business Committee. Today, he is the chair for Sugarwise and a member of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior.
Jim has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations. He also authored the textbook “Nutrition You Can Use” and his latest book, “Let’s Eat Mindfully.
He and his wife, Rosemary, have two sons, two daughters-in-law and five grandchildren.
