Sonja Stetzler is the founder of Effective Connecting, a business that develops clients’ communication skills to ensure their success in the workplace. A former health care provider, she also has several decades’ experience in management, sales and coaching, and she’s worked for the past two decades as a communications consultant for organizations including Microsoft, Duke Energy, Carolinas HealthCare System and Bank of America.
Sonja’s unique teaching style uses improvisation techniques to deepen her clients’ communication skills. She’s been trained by The Second City in their applied improvisation program and in medical improv at Northwestern University. She recently conducted research with Kyle Thompson, Ph.D., DCN, RDN, LDN, CNSC, to determine if medical improv could improve the empathetic communication skills of dietetic interns. Their paper was published in the 2019 spring issue of Topics in Clinical Nutrition.
Sonja received her bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and her master’s degree in organizational communication from Queen’s University. She is certified as an executive coach and is a member of the National Speakers Association, International Coach Federation and Applied Improvisation Network.
