Dietitians and Dairy Farmers: A Farm to Fridge Connection

This spring, your local dairy checkoff sponsored three Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics meetings in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. The meetings offered breakout sessions educating local dietitians about where their food comes from and introducing them to dairy farmers. These sessions encouraged a positive dairy dialogue, impacting more than 1,000 dietitians who influence the shopping habits of more than 15,000 customers.

“Even though Registered Dietitians (RDs) talk about food, they don’t always know a farmer,” said Sara Robbins, a director of Health and Wellness programs for Dairy MAX, Inc. “By connecting them to dairy farmers, we helped dietitians understand the efforts of local dairy farmers and bring that agriculture connection closer to the community.”

During the meetings, the Dairy MAX Health and Wellness team also focused on keeping nutrition a big part of the conversation. At the end of the day, Robbins said Dairy MAX is constantly recognized as the experts in dairy nutrition and a leader on the cutting edge of nutrition trends.

“We always look forward to sharing the latest dairy research and trends, and spreading the word about how three servings of dairy fits into a healthy diet,” she added. “We’re all about building demand for dairy.”
